A hint on the AN/ARC-2 dynamotor- it is the worst I've
found for collecting moisture when it sits for a long time.
The PE-73 is a close second.
When you take it out to lube, you'll need to perform whatever
ritual you prefer to drive out moisture. I've set it on the
bench unloaded and run it at lowered voltage for a few
hours and let it get good and warm.
This works for me; YMMV.
It's a sturdy machine; I once accidently left my ARC-2
running continuously for 18 hours. It didn't seem to mind.

Also- someone tell me the name of the Collins engineer
who designed the dynamotor mounting. I'm going to
get a voodoo GreeGree-man to put a hex on his soul
so that he has to stay in Pergatory until he has removed
and re-installed that dynamotor 100,000 times as pennance
for inflicting this abomination on us.

The dynamotor is a cylinder with female pins on the side
which mate to male pins on the chassis.
However- the connector, instead of being straight down
perpendicular to the chassis, is "cocked" at about 30
degrees up the curve of the cylinder.
This wouldn't be so bad except for one thing:
the center of gravity along the long axis of the dynamotor
cylinder causes the dyno to rotate as you try to install
it, pointing the connector straight down. No room for
your fingers, either.
Someone here (I'm sorry; I don't remember who)
suggested using a couple of cloth strips to hold the dyno
as you lower it so you can rotate the thing into place.
Next time I have the dyno out, I'm going to try that.
