Howdy, Hue!
I did a lot of work on the AN/ARC-2 last summer and
wrote-up most of it.
I tried many different itterations of the "tighten the IF"
schemes. In short- none of them worked well and all
of them came with unintended consequences that degraded
performance in various ways. Also- the center conductor
insulation of the shielded cables connecting stage to stage
and which you must unsolder to make changes
has a very low melting point. Even a 25 Watt iron in those
small spaces did damage to it.
It would be very difficult to replace.

I eventually decided that I wasn't going to try working
DXCC with an AN/ARC-2 in the first place. I use it
for local AM nets, CW when the bands aren't crowded
and enjoy it for what it is, which is "a cool radio."
I think it was the right decision.

P/S/ Important: Always replace metal tubes with
metal tubes in the ARC-2; never glass.
The metal shield is required. Glass tubes in the IF
will cause the stages to go into oscillation and
not in a "good" way.
