The WS19 output impedance is around 42 ohms, so a regular antenna tuner can be used to couple it to a 50 ohm antenna system, abd which also provide harmonic attenuation. In the original configuration where the variometer is used to match the whip or long wire used with the set, the variometer provides the harmonic attenuation. If using a standard antenna tuner, the relstive RF output metering is not functional as the RF sample is rectified in the variometer and the resultant proportionate DC voltage is fed back to the metering circuit in the transceiver via the coax feeding the RF into the variometer. Using an antenna tuner between any one of my 4 Wireless Sets 19 (MkII's and MkIII's) and my 50 ohm antenna system I get 15 -18 watts into the antenna on CW. I can work into Europe with no problems, even on 80 m, I have even had WS19 to WS19 contacts. In order to make the set easier to use on a crowded band, I use an active audio filter with notch and peak funcions between the 19
set and the headset.
