[Milsurplus] RAK-7 and other WW2 items for sale

I've been wondering - all you ever see are the RAK-7 and RAL-7.  Does
that mean there were six models before those, but only those were made
in large quantities?  Was it the case that those were already developed
when the war hit, so they were put into production to avoid a wait for
more modern designs?
