The earliest models had round meters instead of the most often-seen fan
types, Ray. As to the gray panels vs black, GR actually painted some of
these mod monitors to match commercial gear. I have a gray metallic one
that matches the Collins BC gear like the 300G, 26W, and 212A console
perfectly. They also made a brown model to match the older Raytheon gear
like the RA-series of transmitters & consoles that were tan and brown.
Pretty sure they had something that matched the RCA line, too. The black
crackle finish was the usual GR generic finish.

BTW, I found a home for that BC-348R you were admiring at Richmond.
Couldn't get any bites at the 'fests or on the lists so I traded it for a
nice mid-30s Comet Pro. Interest in complete, unmodified 348s seems to have
waned along with so much else, so this was a good way out.
