[Milsurplus] radium and eBay

Unfortunately, I think, there is no middle ground between
"it's your problem now" and "you may NOT have that toy!"
Most civilians would know better than to lick the front
panel clean, but they might not know any cautions about
cleaning it. They might not know that even the tuning
thumbwheels on the TBX are 'hot', for example.
I don't intend to be the one to break radium silence. That
would be cutting my own throat. Issues of ethics, or what
I view as ethical questions, captivate me. YMMV.
The author of the TBY article I referred to was Walt Hutchins,
who wrote a lot of E-R's early articles on milsurplus, and
he kind of, I think, set the standard for examination of
operating specs. I have to assume he is not a total idiot.
I did want to present the issue here and see what people
considered.
I have never considered spraying the front panel with
clear covering as a solution. Maybe, a short term solution.
Maybe that's all we really need in the world, as that saying
goes. ( J. Keynes? ) I can't believe the spray-on adheres that well.
My way of dealing with it is to do minimal cleaning
of the front panel and then just being aware.
