Instruction Book for Keyer KY-83A/S. 05/18/1953. My note was correct.
The keyer is used with UHF transmitter-receivers (mentioned are TED/RED,
TDZ/RDZ and AN/ARC-27). A Mine Sweeping Auxiliary Control Panel on the Master
MSO (Mine Sweeper, Ocean) generates a 500 CPS signal which is sent out like a
string of slow Dits or Dahs. Transmitt audio and the 500 CPS keying pulses
are passed thru the KY-83 where where a 500 CPS filter/mixer section strips
out voice signals around 500 and inserts the keying pulses. On the Slave
MSO's, a similar filter strips out the keying pulses and routes them to a
Slave Auxiliary Control Panel which is connected to the sweep gear. The rest of
the received audio is routed to a loud speaker or SB-82/SRR or equivalent.

The KY-83 cabinet is built similiarly to say an AN/URA-8 or 8A/B. Grey
with rounded corners.
