[Milsurplus] SAQ Reception

No joy on the West Coast either, though there were little flashes at
17.2 KHz from time to time on the waterfall display. I listened for
both transmissions and this only showed up on the 1200UTC transmission.
I am listening from the California High Desert in DM15bs.

On the other hand, I was able to copy three of the Russian "Alpha"
locating beacons between 12 and 14 KHz, and beacons in Australia, Japan
and the usual Hawaii and Cutler stations. I had occasional bursts of
QRN, but it was fairly quiet here. Given the conditions and the other
stations I was copying, I was surprised NOT to see more of SAQ.

I am using a Perseus and a Marconi "T" antenna.

In 2003 I WAS able to copy SAQ here at this location using a shielded
magnetic loop, preamp and Spectrum Lab software running on a laptop.
Apparently, this was the first time SAQ had ever been copied on the US
West Coast. And I have a nice QSL card to show for it as well as a
special mention in their listener's report (as WA6NIA).

One more opportunity on Wednesday morning ....

Keep listening!!
