The 506 set for $100 was a good deal. I have the BC 653 xmtr I've been trying to piece together. Have the 652 rcvr and the shock mount for the 506.
Had read were the radio ops did not much care for the SCR 506 set and preferred the SCR 193 with the BC 191/ BC 312.
The BC 653 could only do 2- 4.5 mcs I beleive. Pretty limited IMO for something that big ...and heavy!!

There were two complete sets xmiter and recvr, for sale at Dayton Hamvention last year. One, quite nice looking, other a little ratty looking. Both with Dynamotours, etc. My friend John, bouth the nice looking one for 100
dollars, the other sold for 65. BTW, I have a 1940 something QST around
here somewhere with a great article about that set. They mounted one in a car and took off cross country for field test of running it mobile. It is quite a extensive article and an interesting read.
