Don't believe the catalog text. This is not a superhet and it certainly doesn't have 10 tubes, unless you count a fullset of spares. How could they get it this wrong ???? This makes me wonder about the validity of the rest of thetext in this entry.
My guess on the CMS, which i think is the best one out there, is that this was an early try to come up with a radiofor the Philippine resistance. But that it proved too "hammy" - hard to use. A ham would put up with tuning up his transmitter with a light bulb - loop of wire, but how about someone who'd just been thru a short course inradio and didn't have any interest in radio otherwise? I don't think any of the CMS were ever deployed for actualuse. Ultimately, other radios were used, mostly Australian types, but also a couple special U.S. radios.
