I recently acquired a beautifully-made USN RAY-3 VHF receiver,
made under contract N288s-15485 of 07-21-1943, with no navy
type number indicated, by Doolittle Radio Inc. of Chicago.

It is crystal-controlled on 36.58 MHz, employs 11 tubes, and
has a self-contained dynamotor.

I can't find any substantive information about the RAY-*
receivers or their function. Minimal information found in
SHIPS 242A of 1945 is not helpful.

Has anyone here ever come across the RAY-* receiver system
before? My best guess right now is that it is some sort of
radio control set.
