[Milsurplus] JAN388A-2 tube

I have a part of a subassembly that used JAN388A-2 tubes.
The front has a Grid and Plate tuning control implying a transmitter.
When I try and find data in this tube, i find that it is a triode 
receiving door knob tube.
The subassembly has no identification on it.
There is a RF out connector with a crystal detector built in.
Does any one know what the frequency range of this tube is and what 
the power out might possibly be?
This used two of the tubes with no obvious RF input.
Would like to use the tuning section out of this, if, I knew, for 
sure what the frequency is.
Looks to be in the range of high VHF, low UHF.

Any help appreciated.
