Patience and the right touch. Unsolder the leads from the pins. Wrap
the tube in a sturdy rag so you won't cut your hand if it breaks. Wrap
the base with a rag too, and use a pair of channellock/water pump pliars
to SLIGHTLY! deform the base, squeezing it gently midway between the
bottom where the pins are and the top where the glass envelope joins on,
turn the tube about a quarter turn, squeeze again several times. Then,
try twisting the base. Take it easy, each little twist will get bigger,
but not too far or you will break off the element lead wires, until it
comes off. I've done this many times to change the base on a tube. As
an example, if I need an 80 but only have a bad 80 and lots of 5R4s.
