I agree that Strieber's likely an old-fashioned Texas flim-flam man.
However- this book was from a earlier time and it is worth reading
if you have any interest in nuke warfare.
His co-writer, James Kunetka (sp?) has impecable credentials 
as a writer.  They grew up together.  It's telling that James stopped
collaborating after this and one other book. 

But all that is beside the point- Whoever wrote it, "Warday" is
an excellent picture of what "limited" atomic war and it's aftermath 
would be like.  Hold you nose and give it a read.
