Hmmmm......I have the same problem with my Weller D 550 gun. Comes on and
works great, then stops heating. I can hear the 'hummmm' as it's working,
then it quits. I assumed it had a loose connection inside.
If oxidation is the case, it might explain why they sell plated or
stainless tips as well as the plain copper. I know it's annoying as all
hell, since I only use it for big jobs where you need a lot of heat fast.
It's 240 or 325 watts depending how far you depress the trigger, but it
cuts out on both settings.
