Don't know why but the manual is the same, just the second half addresses the monster that the ARC-38A is and the first half is the AM version that's a way better radio then the SSB version. Not certain but thought that most of the 38 sets were built by Collins and RCA did the refit to change them to SSB so hard to imagine one book covering both Collins and RCA. Another useless trivia item, when they converted the 38 to a 38A they stamped "Modified for SSB" on every module. In some cases that is a big thing where there are lots of internal differences but in things like the PA, Audio or Slug racks there is no difference at all other than the label but they get labeled anyway. All: There is a difference between the two as well. The -38 is an AM rig; the -38A also does USB.

What you looking for? W7FG.COM sells the manual for the ARC-38/38A but its pricey.
