Dave,

I have used these AD9850 boards with this controller:

<http://www.pongrance.com/DDS-9850.html>

You have to build this board but it has thru hole devices so you don't have to worry about working with SMT devices.

It gives you the ability to generate 64 fixed output "channels" but does not have a tune up/donn or vfo capability.

If you prefer having the ability of tuning up and down and you don't want to spend the time building a kit I would check out this AD9851 DDS board:

<http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-AD9851-DDS-Function-Signal-Generator-0-50MHz-DDS-signal-source-DDS-Module-/221189853728?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item337ff15220>

If you want a vfo capability as well as channelized I'd check out K5BCQ's Si570 Controller and Frequency Generator (Kit #2). It's the best of the lot but you have to mouny SMD devices and it output's a square wave so, depending on your application, you have have to place a low pass filter on the output.

I've use's all three and prefer thet last one.

I use them to control the frequency of my vintage solid state radios but it should work well with the appropriate buffer to drive hollow state radios.

Have fun,

Mike N2MS

Has anyone here actually used one of these DDS modules
in a way that can be duplicated without
renting a full-up surface-mount factory for a few hours?
Haven't found much useful on Google:

If I have to etch a board and add 500 ittsy-bittsy parts
and tag-on a PC through a $200 interface, I pass.
I'll stick with the $5 programmable oscillators.
