The AN/GRR-5 That's on eyeball in 1975 was just barely worth firing up... But it was cheap. I bought that thing for 50 dollars From a guy with a peach farm In Middle Tennessee.
I saw his ad on a card at Electra Distributing on West End Avenue in Nashville. Heck I was 25 with almost no money and was trying to get back into amateur radio. I plugged it into 120v AC and bingo. Instant reception. No slow tuning, only fast tuning. Very basic RX with ugly bathtub caps, almost like its ARC5 predecessors!

It got me by for a while and allowed the bug to keep biting until I broke down and bought a Yaesu FT101E that forever changed my window on the world of HF amateur radio.
