[Milsurplus] ANOTHER T-368 DRIVER TUBE SUBSTITUTE POSSIBILITY???

Greetings!

John's message re. replacements for the type 6000 tube (NEW and IMPROVED,
with a plate made of Unobtainium!) sort of brought up something I've been
considering lately.

While I have a 6000 in my exciter deck, and one precious spare socked away,
of late I've been considering the attempts at rewiring for a more commonly
available tube type.

I know 6146 has been done, but that presents some mechanical challenges...
among them, adding a plate cap.

While tinkering with something else, a very different approach came to mind.

Has anybody tried to rewire a T-368 driver deck for the Soviet GU-50???

That thing is cheap, quite commonly obtainable, and from the looks of the ratings,
a HELL of a TOUGH tube besides! The best part... the plate comes out on the
base!!!

To me, it looks do-able, without too much fuss & feathers. But since I hate to
reinvent the wheel, I thought I'd ask here if anyone else has done it already.

BTW... at the moment, my T-368 deck has been rack mounted, and will soon be looking
into the grid of ANOTHER Soviet tube, a GU-81M, to provide a legal limit AM rig for
160 meters.
