I was told a story about a B-36 that landed at Grenier AFB outside Manchester, NH. I believe that was quite an accomplishment due to runway lengths & such. The base commander wouldn't let the crew into the NCO & officers' clubs because they were wearing their flight suits & not the uniform of the day!
On a visit to the Air Force museum in Dayton years ago I stepped over the tape & stood under the open bomb bay doors of their B-36. It was an awesome experience. I believe the B-36 was designed around the need to carry one or two of the first H-bombs which were quite large & heavy.
