In my case, I have been away from the radio hobby for 45 years. I would like to do some "hamming" in the years I have left.
I now live on SS and depend on selling old audio equipment, that has fallen my way over a lifetime, for "play" money.
However, after having paid $60 per month for a 400 sq ft storage unit for the past 10 years... It becomes sort of a "break even" proposition. When we moved out of the "big city" and retired to a crime free small town in the NW Arkansas Ozarks I filled a 5 yard dumpster several times. No radios were harmed in that move...
I have no "junk box" to draw from as I did in years past. I will take or purchase almost anything in restorable condition if it is pertinent to my needs. But as David said it has to be cheap. I have been an electronics tech for 50 years, so it's second nature for me to deal with tube based gear. In fact, I prefer it. It takes me back to my youth. Having fun with the radio hobby is what it's all about... Right?
