The 838 is a low bias version of the 211, mainly for audio use. Among other
places, it was used in some of the WW2 SONAR gear, as power amps for the
transmitted SONAR signal.
I've used both the 211 and the 838 in a push-pull Hartley oscillator,
monster signal, if somewhat impure by today's standards.
