In Germany right after WWII I was station in Berlin.
The Germans had a small diathermy (?) machine that
would fit into a shoe box.
It generated a high frequency high-voltage, Van Der Graff
style, and used a glass probe with the end shaped like a
door knob.
Sparks would some out of the probe, and into the
victims skin. I tried it. I didn't feel anything.
It was to treat aches and pains in the elbows and
shoulders.
