the photos are great, but a lot of the equipment appears to be test equipment by Marconi (UK), HP, and even a General Radio VTVM. I see a Collins R-390 (non-A) and several R-1051s.

Yes? the Plexi is a good? idea...
 things? get stolen...
 ?
sad thing is... some of it is? just? cleptos?
but probably? most of the thefts that occur? are? from
other people that? have Gear. Now that is? really sad....

Hi...
A long time ago, before the Intrepid first became a floating museum in NYC, I wandered about at bit, and ran across a room, maybe 8 by 10 feet at the end of a stairway landing, which 8 Collins R-390s (or 390As) in a rack: the room could not be entered because the door had been replaced by a thick plexiglass sheet allowing looking but no touching; there was no operator position, so I assume audio was fed elsewhere.
I vaguely recall that the room was at the outside wall of the superstructure, so maybe the mass of the 390s was designed to provide some protection.
I was there to check out the written script for the audio tour against walking times so the cassettes could be cut to the proper length for mass duplication. Pity I didn't save one, as I was the first narrator for the test runs.

I didn't realize any were open.
I went to the Lexington in corpus last year and never saw anything.

I would be interested in knowing about any naval ships that are available for tour that have a radio shack open and set up with equipment for viewing.

Especially the knox class frigates

Thanks,

Hi gang - I'm headed west to LA for a week and I've got this Saturday free - does anyone know if the radio spaces aboard the Iowa (in San
Pedro) are open?
Or know anyone I could contact about a visit. Or know of anything else I shouldn't miss....
thanks,
