Though I was not able to activate NEPL for Night of Nights, I did check in
with K6KPH (Maritime Radio Historical Society) from N1EPL USS MASSACHUSETTS
a week before the big event.  I used the TBM transmitter and RBC receiver,
lined up on 14050kc using the LR frequency meter.  One tunes to their
frequency and sends their call until one hears them reply with DE, at which
point one sends one's call.  It worked pretty well.  An old Navy op NI9Y
bird-dogged me onto their frequency as I was 450Hz high at first, but then
by ear estimated a QSY down approximating the A above middle C (440cycles)
and before long I got the DE response.
