I have some original comm logs from Atlantic convoys which address messages for the Navy escorts to TGC. The overall Convoy Commander is referred to as "CC."

Task Group Commanders. This was part of a Naval force under the
ultimate command of VAdm J.H. Towers, Commander, Carrier Task Force 38
(in August 1945, at least...see note below.) The descending order of
command is CTF, CTG (Group), and CTU (Unit). I don't know why the
auction says 1944, as in August 1944 CTF38 seems not to have been
involved in any major operation. In August 1945 they did strike
Northern Honshu, which may be where the kudos came from. Also, the date
at the lower right hand corner has a distinct "5" before the "T".

73,
Mike
