Packing - I got my '348-R from Dave Sundheimer W0NBZ and he sent it in a high-strength cardboard box Fed Ex, w/~4" hi-density padding all around, knobs removed, drilled plywood panels to protect the sides from point impacts.
The only caveat was that he wanted the case back. Once I unpacked my baby, I understood and spent the $$ to send it back "dead-head". It was strictly a custom job. Next step up would've been a Pelican case.........The only way to do it if you truly respect the equipment.
I feel a pang of sadness when something gets wrecked in transit because the Vendor/Buyer didn't care enough to spend the time es $$ and/or the Shipper was one of the Samsonite Gorillas. Many of these literally went thru a War, and to see them busted just getting from Point A to Point B bugs me way down deep somewhere.
