Good advice. Less is more in this case. Too many people assume that family
members clearing out an estate will be as knowledgeable and dedicated as
they were, and have an endless supply of time to accomplish it. I've been
telling people for years that when the average person clears out grandpa's
garage and finds old radio gear, more often than not it all looks like old
toaster ovens or broken microwave ovens. Think 'kitchen appliance' as this
is what most people have some experience with. Wooden radios seem to be the
exception as they are still recognizable as radios to most folks.
Keep it simple and better still, name some folks to call for assistance. A
basic list with simple descriptions. Values are relative and change
depending on demand, so what it's worth to you and what it sells for after
you're gone will likely be very different. Remember that it's generally an
unpleasant task for those who have to deal with it, so the easier you can
make it, the faster they can handle it, and the more likely some of the
gear will survive. Ebay will always provide the largest audience but adds
tons of time to the process. No so bad if an experienced ebayer is involved.
