Kludged in a replacement cap (4th IF filter array) for further testing. I applied 250V B+ from another PSU with 28V for the filaments - still no audio at all - not even a hiss/hum from the speaker or phones, tap the antenna/ground leads - nothing. Nothing else heated up immediately, all tubes tested OK.
Fire it up again and, sniff-sniff, the potted audio transformer assembly is warming up very nicely and the 250V output from the PSU is at 125VDC.
I measured resistance between all the posts and CHASSIS GROUND, getting the following
(Go here for the photo of the internal layout diagram: www dot flickr dot com/photos/radio-tuber)
1) AF choke - 300 ohms
2) AF primary - 3.8k
3) CW OSC time constant - 800k
4) AF primary - 3.2k
5) HI Z AF OUT tap - 220 ohms
6) LO Z AF OUT tap - 22 ohms
Maybe the Primary/Secondary is blown? Check for continuity:
2 to 4) across the AF primary - 540 ohms
1 to 6) AF choke plus LO Z - 100 ohms
1 to 5) AF choke plus H1 Z- 280 ohms
OK. Back to the schematic. Thinking B+ shorted to ground thru the AF Primary via cap 31-2 (mica .0015 uF).
Resistor 61 appears to be OK also: neither warm at all under load.
Maybe cap 123C in the AF assembly (.05/400V/paper CW OSC Time Constant). This brings me back to the BFO repair.............maybe disconnect/remove it and checking my work again..........
Any other ideas?
