Why? This other group being that stellar sliver of the younger generation
who also brought you wonderful things like pants-on-the-ground, hats on
sideways, and other ways to seem cool in your stupidity are just that - a
small sliver of an otherwise good group overall. IIRC, they also use the
same definition for the word 'junk'. Yet I see, hear, and use that word
regularly with no problems. Then again, I don't hang out in da 'hood,
either.
Fortunately we don't run into the giggling juveniles at hamfests
or milsurplus gatherings. Plenty of young people, few idiots it would seem.
We're able to discuss things like the schmeg pile, the junk we brought to
sell, pile-o-junk, junk-in-the-trunk or whatever else without hearing some
Beavis & Butthead wannabee sniveling from the background....'heh heh....he
said junk...'.
We're slowly becoming a society of children again, with adults talking to
each other like they'd talk to small children. "Don't use the C-word, the
N-word, the T-word, the B-word, the L-word..." and other warm-fuzzy ways to
try to get others to conform to their warped ways. Some people are just too
busy being offended to grow up and get on with life, apparently. The fact
that a few idiots choose to misuse a word means nothing, other than
the fact that its multi-syllable alternative is likely too difficult for
them to pronounce, much less spell.
Thanks to Mr Mike and his crew for bringing the mother of all milsurplus
schmeg piles to Hosstaders years ago to share with many of us. No banned
words or book burnings required. As someone who has helped him move,
transport, and otherwise deal with some of the items he mentioned left in
his garage, I can tell you it's first rate stuff, and a lot of items you're
not likely to find easily or at all these days.
