That description sounds like what I recall from the little manual.  It
is not a heavy duty antenna like the TBS antenna for mounting way up
in the weather.

They put these on landing craft also.

You can't see the antenna or radio, but this shot shows a landing
craft coxswain wearing a TBY headset.
