Makes you wonder if any MBF sets were ever deployed in the field? Maybe that radio was something like the TBX-8?

Thought the Collins MBF fits in there someplace? The TBS was a large complex radio but it was a reliable design. The TBY is useless as a field radio and have heard accounts of its use in convoy duty and of a power adapter for shipboard use so can see it fitting right in in that application but then there is the MBF that is just about useless for anything except communicating with a TBS or TBY, perhaps the MBF replaced the TBY later in the war as a more reliable VHF AM transceiver then the temperamental TBY?

Not to mention the big space requirements for the TBS.... a gargantuan piece
of heavy metal for just one channel. 50 watts? who needed that
much for convoy
comms? If you could keep a TBY on channel, why not take the easy
way out...:-)
