I have spent a lot of time with the BC-191 while in USAF
starting just after WWII. And did a couple of QSO's while
airborne with our old C-47. BC-375, that is.
They were replaced by the T-5 and the Gates URN-5.
When used as a Homing Beacon, (Continuous AM), we
placed a cool air supply at the top of the tubes. A 3 inch
pipe with holes in it was placed across the top, and a
blower sat on the floor.
In intermittent amateur service, (at a remote site usually), we
just left the cover open, and tried for a low duty cycle.
Every place I was, boonies or not, we found enough spare
equipment to get a ham station on the air. Licensing was
usually not a problem.
John, in the picture, that's a weird place to set the receiver.
