Ralph and all,
Your mention of the CK722 takes me back to when
I first used a transistor.  Built a Geiger Counter while
in Alaska.  1954, that was.  CK722 was a cute little
blue thing that worked without having a filament.
Trivia:  Used a Victoreen tube.
