While on the subject of modifications, I stumbled across this on EBay and think it's amazing! It's a HRO that someone replaced all the old octal tubes with miniature tubes, going to assume that this was some weird attempt to improve the noise figure of the radio although the old 6K7 tubes did not perform that badly in that old radio as per original design. I have a HRO RAS that I still use from time to time and find the old 6D6/6C6 technology to be one of the best parts. Maybe they used more modern tubes when they did this with the idea that newer tubes would be easier to obtain in the future but looking at the modifications can see they used a GE compactron tube, looks like a 6U10? Anyone else remember them? and where 6K7 and 6V6 tubes are relatively common today finding those GE compactron tubes may be another matter. The receiver is item number: 170927654773
