With it's large size, an airship could be an excellent airborne radio 
and antenna platform. Did they use a trailing wire antenna?  Being able 
to extend a really long antenna and work it against the frame (in a 
rigid) or full sized counterpoise (in a blimp) would probably beat 
almost any LF-HF  antenna on an airplane.  Did the Navy ever use 
airships as repeaters or translator stations?
