I took a look at this painting, but wasn't real impressed. The scene is
zilch in that
the activity portrayed is the soldier comparing disgusting cigarettes.
Second, I
have doubts about the business model of such vendors, which consists of
cutting
ads out of old magazines. I know they cannot cut up more than a small
fraction
of the old magazines still existing, but I still decline to do business with
them.
The "divide-and-conquer" impulse goes way back. Which, for example, is why
there isn't more of that ancient scroll fragment that talks about "Jesus'
wife" extant:
some antiques seller cut apart the original ancient document, to sell the
pieces.
