Nick,
Thank you for this link. Raymond Moore in "Communications Receivers"
had the 51J not appearing until 1949, after the 75A (1946). This never
made sense to me.
Moore does identify some other pre-75A receivers:
51F 1939 Fixed frequency
51Q 1940 a.k.a. TCS - COL-46159 Standard 1930's
superhet architecture.
51H 1944 a.k.a. R-105/ARR-15 PTO local oscillator.
Harmonics thereof used fro higher bands
51J 1945 (corrected date) Double
conversion. Xtal controlled 1st osc. PTO 2nd osc.
Of course, the 51J established the architecture used in the R-390,
R-383, R-648/ARR-41, 51S1, etc.
