WD40 is about 50% Stoddard solvent, which is a commonly-used cleaning
and degreasing solvent, and about 25% mineral oil (which leaves the
residue that many object to). De-Oxit includes special ingredients
that actually remove oxidation, and I highly recommend it too. But in
the olden days, TV repairmen bought "contact cleaner" by the case, which
was typically based on some cocktail of CFCs, which nowadays is
frowned-up, so there are various more PC concoctions that use light
petroleum distillates, not unlike Stoddard solvent, and alcohols.
CRC's "QD" is a general purpose contact cleaner that's available in
several formulations,

I agree WD-40 isn't a good lubricant and prefer to use isopropyl alcohol
and a brush instead of any aerosol, with De-Oxit for contact surfaces.
