I'm probably biased, being English, but having both sets I prefer the R1155. Easier to use, easier to restore, easier to keep going, easier to read tuning scale.
Most 55's were butchered, the df section removed, audio amps fitted though not needed to make the set usable, my 55 has no af o/p other than original and blows the room out (I have a youtube video to prove it). The df section removed gives enough space for a psu but ruins the look of the set inside.
The 348 is a nice rx, but I prefer the R1155.

Is, or were the R-1155 receivers equal in United Kingdom to what the BC-348 is
or was to the post war Ham and SWL community in the US? Today the BC-348
receivers appear to be worth more than they ever were in the past possibly due
to the small numbers of them around in comparison to what was available in the
late forties up thru the seventies and knowing from first hand experience that
they had little or no value in the seventies and eighties so at that time had no
issues modifying or converting them and can see where at one time they were a
cheap way to get a receiver and get on the air. Now unmodified examples are
uncommon and appear to be what everyone wants to have so they command a high
price. I never used one in military service and have little desire to have an
all original version and am much happier with the modified “Ham” version maybe
because that’s what I used back in the seventies when I was still in school. So
my question is the R-1155 treated the same way over there? And were there many
BC-348 receivers about? I did own a R-1155 that I bought about ten years back,
when I bought it was already missing most the tubes, all the DF components and a
lot of other bits. Did install an AC power supply and new audio output stage and
it was a fun little receiver. Particularly liked the different color bands and
the reduction tuning, but do remember that I ended up changing every fixed
capacitor in the radio. Think every capacitor in a can was leaky or shorted.
