[Milsurplus] R-388/51J3 Difference

I have a 51J-4 with a serial plate which came from a state auction from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Full provenance on it, as the state employee who originally purchased it is a friend of mine.

I also have a R-388 which came from another auction from the then Texas Highway Department (now TXDOT). No nameplate, but you can tell it is a R-388 bcause it has the MWO data stencilled next to where the nameplate was removed. Two state agencies, two different approaches to inventory control. And there seems to be some uncertainty about exactly how this receiver came into the possession of the state agency. MARS was mentioned once. Go figure.

Nick I saw one in the 70's A friend gave me a 7A3 ham bad recv. and
kept the J3 being that I had not license... I would have much rather had
the J3! I remember whining about it... petting it.... begging etc...

Ed!
