[Milsurplus] Mil Radio in a Shadow Box

Looking at Epay offerings I am surprised by the number of plastic models of
military radios or military radio operators. Years and years back I sort of
got
started into this niche with a couple Elastolin WW2 German army radio
figures, and maybe a crude walkie talkie or two out of some dimestore
bag of Army soldiers. Come to think of it, the Elastolin figures could
have been a postwar creation to fleece the collector market. Now I see
so many more offerings. A resin-cast FunkSprech-A set, even? Heavens.
If I started into that, I could have a 3 x 3 foot shadow box, and have room
for my radio collection and any growth. And - I could easily lift it, for
another
move or to some show, for display. Without doing any more damage
to my shoulder, like the BC-312s and PE-237s do, because this shoulder
has to last me. Also, no tubes to obsessively stock, or pay thru the
nose for, like some silly European tube with an odd base but equivalent
to a pedestrian 6SK7, for $40 or so. No radioactive paint to back away
from.
On the other hand, there wouldn't be that rare essence of enamel
paint smell. There wouldn't be the finger-snapping latches, the gizmatchy
knobs to precisely, carefully adjust. The nicely formed metal to run
one's hand over. And, very important, as J.N. points out, the opportunity
to feel Professional, Important.
