I carried Aldis Signal Lamps on all the transport aircraft that I
flew, most of the lamp kits came with several colored lens to include
red, green, yellow and if you removed the colored lens you had white.
Red, green and white are the standard aircraft/airport signal colors.
On some aircraft the lamp was hard wired into the pilots position and
on other aircraft it could be plugged into a 28VDC Buss socket.
The lamp came in very handy when checking for ice on the wings, and
unfreezing a D-1 sextant port - - - but best of all it could be used
to heat your sandwich.

Hand-held lamps were often used to signal aircraft.
Many larger mil aircraft carried a lamp for such use.
