[Milsurplus] Comment on items?

I have a Signalling Light type A. A portable deck signaler for ships. But 
why will a portable small
unit be necessary- was this for damage control situations, where the main 
signal lamps were out?
Battery powered or has plug in for AC - only, as it has a transformer built 
into the storage box.


Also, a Bendix radio mount, I think it's MM-40. What did this one fit?
