[Milsurplus] DC vs AC for power distribution

Hi John:

I would disagree.

Tesla was a college educated man and very intelligent. Edison was a HSDO (High School Drop Out).
Tesla was the first person to invent or make a functional AC motor.
I agree that Steinmetz did a lot of the engineering on AC motors at Westinghouse.

In his Colorado Springs Notebook Tesla was experimenting with LF generation and at some point had a vertical mast with
top loading as the load on the secondary of an HF transformer. Prior to this the transformer was operating at a Q near
1 so nothing special. But with the capacitive load that was much greater than the self capacity of the secondary he got
Q multiplication and made a wrong assumption that he had multiplied the power. From here on the photographs in the
notebook were taken is such a way as to not show all of the transformer, only some parts, i.e. he was keeping this
invention a secret.

There are many pseudo science types who think he did something magical. He didn't.

J.P. Morgan was financing the New Your LF power transmission tower until he found out that there was no way to meter the
user for billing and at that point shut down the project.
The idea was for the wireless transmission of electrical power on a large scale.

For some Tesla patents see my Toy Electromagnetic Motor page at:

and scroll down.

It's said the patent office refused some of his applications and required him to break the application down into many
individual patents, for example see those issued on May 1, 1888 or Dec 3, 1889.

Have Fun,
