I recalled another incident. When I was in high school a couple guys had a
broadcast, also on 880 kc/s,
which they called "KEHR, Edmonds Heights Radio". Edmonds, Washington. They
really got out well
with a high wire antenna, but the problem they couldn't solve was their 2nd
harmonic was about as
strong as the fundamental. One night they got a call on their request line,
at a phone booth, from a
ham, whose request was that they immediately cease broadcasting or he would
call the FCC next.
I happened to see their equipment briefly and it was, as I realized later, a
TU from the BC-191/ 375
with a couple 6V6 tubes built into it. The thing that puzzles me is, was
this some kind of rare MF
freq TU? I am pretty sure these guys didn't have the expertise at that point
to rebuild a higher
freq TU down to freq. I tend to think they had to have had a TU for this
band and then built the
tubes into that. -Hue
