That movie is particularly disgraceful and disgusting.
The scene of the abandoned "German tanks"
all over the eastern California desert is appalling.
Most "war movies" are crap, so they are not the
best standard by which to broadly judge fiction.
But there are exceptions.
I cannot agree that all fiction is a waste.
I have been informed, inspired, educated and deeply touched
by excellent fiction. Some has changed my attitude and
outlook fundimentally. If one is specific to WWII
movies, I can think of none better to give insight into
the misery and madness of combat than
HBO's "When Trumpets Fade."
My father was in the Hurtgen. I recommend it.
IMHO, fiction is like mining for gold;
you must be careful to mine where gold can be found
( sitcom and gameshow TV is NOT where gold is found )
and you discard a lot of spoil,
but the gold is worth the effort.
