G'day all....selling anywhere, any mode, seems simple to me ...If it's an
auction, nominate the lowest starting price  you are prepared to accept.
If there's only one bid--- so what ?
You could be a devil  and  adventurous   and suggest a 'buy now price' if
the item is THOUGHT to be rare, of quality or some other attribute.
Being 'rare'  of course, is only relative to the overall classification of
the item and the state of the collective interest in the area selected.
Low starting prices to my mind are stupid unless you expect massive interest
and a bidding frenzy for an item that is almost a world wide  household word
and it's a 'gotta have one' 
Auction sites  are only an electronic 'refinement  (?)' of putting a an
advertisement in printed  media of choice, with a price,  and then haggling
with a buyer....  
Apply the same principles to auctions on line .
