Careful, Dave.

Don't forget that one of those ships (LCS-10) is named after that
immortal legend of U.S. Navy history, a politician with total
lack of military credentials, Gabby Giffords!!! This is only the
13th US ship ever named after a person still living. I wonder
how the artist for the ship's crest will associate *any* Giffords
"achievement" to *anything* US Navy-related. But so inspiring!

Then, there's the USNS Cesar Chavez (T-AKE-14), named after a
labor-boss who called the time he served in the US Navy in WWII
“the two worst years of my life". I suppose those words will be
incorporated into the ship's crest and motto. But so inspiring!

Then, there's the USS John P. Murtha (LPD-26), named after a
washed-out Washington political hack of 36 years and, just
incidentally, a USMC veteran. He was like some few dishonorable
veterans found from any earlier war who disparage and insult those
of later wars...this time with uninformed war-crime allegations
read from NBC "News" and then spouted from the Senate floor.
Charges that were found to be unsubstantiated. But so inspiring!

All of these insults to honorable US servicemen have taken place
in the past two years. It must be challenging for USN civilian
politicians of the ilk put in place since 2009 to identify anyone
who actually deserved these honors. There's worse coming.
