My guess would be the global nature of the war- 
many allied combatant powers still used loops, 
especially the Russians.   
We didn't just hand ZB around to anyone. 
I had a manual around here some time ago with a red cover and 
markings indicating it should be handled as "secret."
I'm betting the loop connections were included with that in mind.
